28 Cruises and Still Going!

Lambley-Robinson, F. 2017. Rome, Italy.

When I think about travel and who I aspire to be like, my mind always wonders back to a fundamental person in my life, my Nan. A wise and knowledgeable woman, I grew up listening to her stories and tales of countries and faraway places she has travelled to and explored with my Grandad. Thinking about it, she is probably one of my main influences as to why I love travel and culture so much. With that being said, she is most definitely a world class explorer and the reason for this write up. My Nan has travelled far and wide with my Grandad on her favourite type of traveling, cruising. So, who better to interview than my Nan herself about her cruising experiences for people to read and enjoy.

How many cruises have you been on?
“I have had the privilege of travelling on 28 cruises so far and travelling to over 45 countries in my lifetime.”

Why do you like cruising?
“For me I love the lifestyle of cruising and it’s the main thing that keeps me going back. The excellent service and entertainment on board are just some of the things that make cruising a great form of travel. I love getting dressed up rather nicely in the evenings and having a formal dinner, whilst being able to sit outside on the balcony or the deck in the day and read my favourite book with a fruity drink by my side.”

What should someone expect when cruising?
“When going on your first cruise it’s good to keep an open mind. There really is something for everyone to enjoy so expect the unexpected. You can either join in with everyone else on board or you can sit quietly and do your own thing. There are numerous activities provided with something for everyone’s taste and interest. If you enjoy being wined and dined then you will love cruising and the atmosphere it provides. It really is just a great way to get away from life’s problems and explore the world.”

What is your favourite thing about cruising?
I like being able to get on board unpack, then travel to different places and see the different parts of the world. Waking up in a new place every day and getting a taste of all the different countries, places and cultures would have to be my favourite thing about cruising and travel in general. I love experiencing a countries customs and culture and I think cruising is a great way to get a little taste of everything without having the hassle of travelling by car or plane.”

Where has been your favourite place to cruise?
My favourite place to cruise, would have to be the Mediterranean. I love the civilisation in that part of the world and the history and architecture is one of a kind. Depending on which country you are in the culture is so different and something I truly love. Being able to experience the cultures and see the buildings and architecture whilst listening to the language is something magical. You can see such a lot going around the East and West Mediterranean or the Greek islands there’s such a big choice to choose from and it’s a beautiful part of the world to cruise.”

What is your favourite country to travel to and why?
“I love Italy and Greece, the people are so lovely and welcoming and the building and history is so interesting. Greece has the most beautiful islands and you are able to see such beautiful and picturesque scenery. Italy is one of my favourite countries because you are able to get a taste of the beautiful churches and chapels especially in Rome which hold so much history and culture.”

Dedicated to Janice Lambley, thank you for always being a remarkable inspiration and encouraging my travel dreams to come true. I love you.
