The all Australian experience is captured yearly in South Australia’s Lower Lake’s Stockman’s Challenge and Bush Festival. The non-profit, three-day event held in South Australia’s Strathalbyn showcases the beauty of Australian culture; as the young and the old gather together to pay tribute to their Australian heritage.
Whip cracking, bare back riding and a whole lot of family fun are just some of the things designed to make the Stockman’s Challenge a great day out for everyone. Amanda Stevens a spectator from Willunga Hill SA, said, “I really liked how the competition brought a relaxed atmosphere, it was great to be part of this event and compete and spend time with the other riders. The Gunna-Be Challenge was a great addition to the event".
Men and women alike compete to exemplify their skills in all things Aussie, as they showcase their talent in numerous different events throughout the three days. Overall Lincoln Adams from Sale Victoria placed 1st in the Men’s division, being named the ‘2017 Legend of the Lower Lakes’. Whilst Oxley Victoria’s, Ellen Forge won the women’s division. Summah Dryden, from Banawatha Victoria took out the Junior Competition. With South Australian local, junior Competitor Jack Traeger, from Goolwa SA placed 3rd in his division.
A range of activities and family fun stalls are set up to entertain the young ones. Cuddles with a joey kangaroo, fairy floss and rock climbing are just some of the things lined up for the children to enjoy. The lively atmosphere and strong sense of community attracts national crowds with the help and generosity of the volunteers that keep this event running yearly.
With over 3000 people passing through the gates throughout the weekend Kathy Angel, President of the Lower Lake’s Stockman’s Challenge was thrilled with the turnout of people wishing to join in the festivities.
